The $900 RTX 4080 12GB now cancelled and erased from history, was technically only cancelled in name and the GPUs themselves lived on.
And while board partners have undoubtedly been laboring to rebuild cooling shrouds with new labels and print new retail boxes for the cards formerly known as RTX 4080 12 GB, we, consumers, have been waiting to see how they’re going to be inevitably rebadged. And especially if the price will change. Videocards.com believes there’ll be sold as RTX 4070 Ti that could launch on January 5. It’s expected to pack 7680 CUDA cores 240 tensor cores and 60 cores for ray tracing, which sounds good until you compare it to the RTX 4090 which is more than twice the size. 608 square millimeters versus 295 for the ad 104. This means better yields for Nvidia with the AD 104 which would seem like a good thing if we had even the slightest inkling of hope that their savings would be passed along to the consumer. We know they won’t because Moore’s law is dead or perhaps more accurately, Moore’s law is dead to the consumer and the benefits of Moore’s law will now be wholly contributed to NVIDIA’s bottom line, rather than any improved performance per dollar value trickling down to us, plebs.
Seriously though, what the hell’s going on with the GPU market?
